Full All-CC Baseball Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford junior Ethan Lee-Tyson was named to First-team All-Centennial Conference honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Lee-Tyson highlights Haverford's All-Centennial selections as the outfielder continues the streak of the program garnering at least one first-team selection in each year dating back to 2005. Lee-Tyson joins second-team selection senior designated hitter Michael Schwarze and honorable mention selections senior third baseman Spencer Sohmer, senior shortstop Ben Furlong and sophomore second baseman Will Karp. In addition, Karp was named the conference's Gold Glove of the Year.

Lee-Tyson repeats his first team-honor from the 2017 campaign after a season in which he ranked third in the conference in batting average (.372) and hits (60). Lee-Tyson was second in the conference in runs scored (40) and fifth in on-base percentage (.445). Lee-Tyson was one of the hardest hitters in the nation to strike out this season, with just 10 strikeouts in 145 at-bats.  On the basepaths, Lee-Tyson helped pace the high octane Fords running game with 16 steals in 19 attempts.

Through his third season at Haverford, The Weston, Conn. product sits in the top five in program history in career batting average (.376) and total bases (250). Lee-Tyson's 55 hits in 2018 was the 10th-most in the history of the program.

Schwarze had a breakout campaign in his first full season as a position player after appearing primarily as a pitcher through his first three seasons on campus. The senior roped seven home runs, good for a seventh place tie in the conference. The Ladue, Mo. native led Haverford with 34 RBI and tied for second with 61 total bases despite starting just 29 of Haverford's 36 contests.

Sohmer finished a stellar Haverford career with another solid season, starting all 36 games. The Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y. product ranked in the top 10 in the conference in RBI (33) and stolen bases (14) while hitting .301. His .444 on-base percentage was good for seventh in the conference. A 2016 All-Conference and All-Region selection, Sohmer leaves Haverford in the top five in program history in RBI (114), total bases (256), at-bats (515), doubles (36) and triples (8).

Furlong capped a stellar four-year career anchoring the infield for the Fords with a third-straight All-Centennial selection. The Washington, D.C. product was fifth in the conference in defensive assists (114) and eighth in double plays (22) in 2018. Furlong leaves Haverford in the top five in program career history in assists (428), double plays turned (102) and home runs (18). His 10 home runs in 2017 were the second-most in the program's single-season history. He became the first player in Centennial Conference history to homer three times in a single contest on April 8, 2017 at home against Franklin & Marshall. The output set a new Haverford program single-game record for home runs and total bases.

Karp was the Centennial Conference's leader in stolen bases with 29. The second baseman was 13th in the nation in stolen bases and eighth in stolen bases per game (0.81). The 29 steals was the fourth-most in the program's single-season history. In addition to prowess on the base paths, Karp was a defensive standout, consistently making even the most difficult plays make routine at second base while making just six errors on the season. His defensive work earned him the Conference's Gold Glove award. The Princeton, N.J. product becomes the second Haverford infielder to garner the award, joining 2016 winner Furlong.

In addition to the All-Conference honors, Lee-Tyson was again named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team for the second consecutive season.

Haverford will now await the release of All-Region and All-America teams, which are slated to be announced later this month.
