CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College baseball team (13-10, 3-3 CC) went on the road for a Centennial Conference victory over the host Shoremen of Washington College (6-21, 1-5 CC) Tuesday at Athey Park, securing a 17-7 victory, with a big nine-run ninth inning contributing significantly to the 10-run margin of victory.

Harry Genth continued his scorching 2024 campaign, providing Haverford with an early boost by hitting a home run in the top of the first against Xan Wojie. Haverford turned to Colin Lewis on the mound, and Lewis managed to work around a pair of base runners in the bottom of the inning before the game evolved into a pitchers' duel through the first four frames.

Lewis allowed the first Washington College run of the contest to score in the bottom of the fourth as the Shoremen rallied with two outs. A walk to Nick Miller and a stolen base allowed Tahir Parker to level the score with a single. Haverford went back to work in the top of the fifth, igniting a rally with one out.

Mauro DeCillis was hit by a pitch, and Daniel Rosman singled into right field and stole a base. Rosman promptly stole second, and Harry Genth walked to load the bases. Chuck Norton lifted a sacrifice fly into right to put Haverford ahead, and Jack Wallis then hit a double into left field to drive in two more runs. Kyle Beach followed with a home run, and suddenly Haverford found itself in command of the contest, leading 6-1.

Undeterred, the hosts fought back in the bottom of the frame. Drew Kinsey reached on an infield single that plated Ty Everitt, and Zach Stolze then launched a three-run homer against new pitcher Ethan Goldstein, bringing Washington College back within one run at 6-5.

The two teams engaged in a tense battle until Haverford added two more runs in the eighth inning, with Rosman setting the table with a walk ahead of a walk from Genth. The pair each stole a base to put two runners in scoring position before Rosman scored on a wild pitch. Norton then hit a single into left to bring home Genth as the Fords led 8-5.

Washington College managed to grab one run back as Parker delivered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth, but Haverford sealed the deal with a monstrous ninth inning. Luke Treese began the inning with a single, and DeCillis reached base via a hit by pitch. Rosman singled to load the bases, prompting Washington College to summon Alex Martin from the bullpen. Martin got Genth to strike out swinging, but a wild pitch plated a run before Norton hit a double into center to drive in two more runs. Wallis continued to extend the lead with a single up the middle.

John Antonio III was then called to the hill, but Haverford capitalized on five hit by pitches and a walk with two outs to score five more runs as the Washington College bullpen struggled before Vincent Bawden struck out Luke Shane to end the inning.

The Shoremen managed to score one more run in the bottom of the inning on a Luke Herz double, but Drew Doyle, Jack Greff, and Dali Pomfret combined to shut the door on the hosts, with Pomfret inducing a pop out to end the game at 17-7.

Beach had a productive day at the plate for the Fords, collecting three hits, while Genth was seemingly always on the basepaths, as he scored three runs and walked four times in addition to his home run. Norton, Kendrick Curry II, and Wallis each recorded doubles, while Norton, Wallis, and Beach each drove in three runs. Rosman stole three bases.

Lewis pitched a tidy 4.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out four. Drew Doyle tossed 2.2 innings of effective relief, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Stolze was the standout performer for the hosts, with two extra-base hits and three RBIs. Ty Everitt and Drew Kinsey also had two-hit days for the Shoremen.

Centennial Conference play continues tomorrow as the Fords face Ursinus in the annual Play With Pride Game at 3:30 p.m. on Kannerstein Field.
