Kean holds off Fords in field hockey

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team suffered a tough 3-2 loss to visiting Kean University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

The teams traded goals through a 2-2 score until the Cougars grabbed the lead for the third and final time on a goal from Olivia Triano with less than seven minutes remaining. Kean (10-1) then held Haverford (4-6) without a shot the rest of the way.

Kean opened the scoring late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission but Haverford's Mary Hobbs pulled her team even just 75 seconds into the second half with an assist from Alex Waleko.

Triano put the visitors in front for the second time of the day with a score in the 49th minute but again the Fords were able to find an equalizing goal, this time from Waleko with an assist from Roxanne Jaffe in the 58th.

Unfortunately for the Fords they couldn't find a tying goal following Triano's second tally at the 63:27 mark which sent Haverford to its fourth one-goal loss of the season.

Haverford goalie Maggie Cronin finished with five saves in the loss while Kean's Lauren Dobbs earned the victory registering seven saves.

The Fords will try to get back on the winning track next Tuesday afternoon when the fourth-ranked Bears from Ursinus College visit Swan Field for a 4 p.m. Centennial Conference contest.
