Fink departs Haverford for Penn

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College Department of Athletics announces the departure of field hockey head coach Colleen Fink to take the same position at the University of Pennsylvania.

"Haverford has provided me an amazing opportunity to work with top student-athletes, transform a program, and have a true sense of family in the workplace," said Fink. "This team has meant a lot to me over the past four years and it is very difficult to move on to the University of Pennsylvania.  I am eager to get started at Penn but Haverford College field hockey will always be my first team. "

Fink began coaching the Fords in the 2006 season and compiled a 32-39 career record in her four years leading the program.

"Colleen's commitment to providing our student-athletes with a positive and competitive experience was a benchmark of her four years as Haverford's head field hockey coach," said Director of Athletics Wendy Smith '87. "Her enthusiasm for the sport and her athletes, her knowledge of the game and her commitment to the academic and athletic goals of Haverford enabled her to build a program that was not only a top competitive team within the Centennial Conference but a source of pride for the Haverford community."

This past season Fink led Haverford to its first appearance in the Centennial Conference postseason tournament where her Fords won their first league playoff game with a 1-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall College. Her 2009 squad also ended program streaks against Johns Hopkins University and McDaniel College earning their first win over Hopkins since the 1998 season and first victory over McDaniel since 1999.

In 2008 the field hockey program produced the first nine-win season since the 1999 campaign and followed up with another nine-win slate in 2009. The current senior class will graduate with 32 wins over their four year careers, the most since the Class of '92 accrued 36 victories.

Over the past four seasons within the conference Fink pushed Haverford to a 5-0 record against Bryn Mawr College, a 4-1 mark against Swarthmore College and a 3-2 record, including three consecutive wins, against Franklin & Marshall.

A national search for Fink's replacement will begin immediately.
