Waleko, Jaffe continue to gather postseason awards with all-region announcement

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The awards keep rolling in for the Haverford College field hockey pair of Alex Waleko and Roxanne Jaffe as the duo were named to the 2010 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) All-South Region First-Team by the organization Thursday afternoon.

Waleko, a senior, and Jaffe, a junior, have already been tabbed for first-team All-Centennial Conference honors and Waleko was voted the league's player of the year, a first for a Fords field hockey player.

The duo helped lead Haverford into its first conference tournament championship game at the end of a season in which the squad set a new high in wins, 14, for a single-season.

Waleko, one of only two conference representatives chosen for the NFHCA 2010 Division III Senior Game this Sunday in Newport News, Va., took over the top spot in three of the program's offensive categories this fall. She accumulated 39 career goals and 24 assists for 102 points, becoming the first player to crack the century mark.  Her 74 starts — in 74 Fords games over her four-year career — is also a team record.

Jaffe helped lead a defensive group that allowed only 44 goals for a 2.32 goals per game average over the season, marks that are the program's best since the 2002 season (39, 1.99).
