Field hockey's Waleko named to All-America team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – A player of the year selection by the Centennial Conference and an All-South Region honor from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) proved to not be the last word for Haverford College forward Alex Waleko as the senior was named to the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-America Second-Team Monday afternoon.

Waleko helped lead a Haverford squad to its first 14-win season in program history and into the conference tournament championship game for the first time.

With 102 career points from 39 goals and 24 assists Waleko became the program leader in all three categories this year. She is the first player in the program to crack the century mark in points.

A first-team all-conference selection, the league voted Waleko its player of the year -- a first for the Haverford field hockey program -- two weeks ago. The all-region nod came last week.

Monday's honor for Waleko makes her just the second all-American for the program as Tracy Kyger earned the same distinction in 1993.
