Lucky 13 for field hockey as win over McDaniel sets new program high

HAVERFORD, Pa. - With more games awaiting in the conference playoffs, the Haverford College field hockey team set a new season high in wins, 13, after Saturday afternoon's 5-2 triumph over McDaniel College in the Centennial Conference regular season finale for both teams.

Haverford (13-4, 8-2 CC) set its previous high-water mark with a dozen wins in the 1990 campaign. Saturday's defeat dropped McDaniel to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the league.

The day's opening goal by junior Juliana Morgan-Trostle was part of another record in program history as the assist provided by senior Alex Waleko gave the graduating midfielder 100 career points, the first player in the program to crack the century mark.

McDaniel battled back to knot the score up with a goal three minutes after Morgan-Trostle's opener but consecutive markers by Margaret Selsor and Morgan-Trostle provided the Fords with a 3-1 halftime edge and a lead they wouldn't relinquish over the remainder of the contest.

Haverford added second-half tallies from Bryn Bissey and Morgan-Trostle, sandwiched around a McDaniel goal from Hope Battista to set the final score.

Morgan-Trostle's hat trick moved the junior to the top of the team's season goals list with 19, a single-season career high, two ahead of Waleko's 17.

Goalkeeper Maggie Cronin, celbrating Senior Day with Waleko, picked up the win making two saves giving the elder statesman 28 career victories which sets a new high for program net-minders.

The Fords had already clinched third place in league standings coming into Saturday's game cementing a date, next Saturday, in one of two semifinals in the conference tournament. Their opponent will be the second seed, the loser of today's Ursinus at Johns Hopkins match-up.
