Field hockey notches second win in a row with victory over No. 18 Ducks

HOBOKEN, N.J. – A relentless offensive attack pushed the Haverford College field hockey team to a 4-1 non-conference road victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology Sunday evening.

The Fords (2-1) built a four-goal lead on the 18th-ranked Ducks (0-4) before the hosts averted the shutout with a late goal in the second half.

Stevens took the first two shots of the contest but Haverford wrested away control beginning with its first shot of the game, a goal by Alex Waleko who carried into the circle from the left side and beat Ducks goalie Ellyn Griggs in the game's fourth minute.

The Fords took the next 15 shots in the game, including a Margaret Selsor score in the 31st, before the Ducks could register their next shot with just 42 seconds left in the opening half.

Christine Gall and Roxanne Jaffe added second-half goals for the Fords to build the halftime lead into a four-goal cushion until Stevens' Caitlin Chamberlain scored off a penalty corner opportunity in the 67th minute.

The Fords finished with a 20-6 advantage in shots accumulating 13 shots on the Ducks goal while surrendering just two on Haverford goalie Sydney Hyder.

The victory was the second in a row for the Fords and first-year head coach Jackie Cox.

Haverford gets its next outing on its home turf at Swan Field where the University of Scranton will bring an identical 2-1 record into Tuesday's 4:30 p.m. non-league match-up.
