Two in a row for field hockey after win over visiting Stevens

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Roxanne Jaffe opened the scoring and Juliana Morgan-Trostle added a pair of goals in the Haverford College field hockey team's 5-2 non-conference victory Saturday over the visiting Ducks from the Stevens Institute of Technology. The win was the second in a row for the Fords who defeated Wesley College Wednesday night.

Jaffe's goal in the 11th minute gave the Fords (2-1) a lead that they would never relinquish though the Ducks (0-3) twice trimmed the lead to just one. Goals from Alyssa Mayo and Morgan-Trostle in the final 11 minutes closed out the win for the home team.

Haverford controlled the attack throughout much of the opening half accumulating twice as many shots, 14, as the Ducks would muster. Second-half action mirrored the first, with the Fords holding a 10-5 shots advantage, but Stevens broke through with two scores -- sandwiched around a Bryn Bissey goal for the Fords -- to keep the game tense.

Sydney Hyder picked up the win in goal for Haveford finishing with four saves. Sarah Crist helped Hyder out with a defensive save in the 30th minute of the opening stanza. Stevens' Krysten Suarez took the loss in goal after making six saves.

The Fords will open Centennial Conference play with their next outing, a Noon contest at Dickinson College next Saturday.
