Field hockey falls to #3 F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. – Haverford College's field hockey team visited third-ranked Franklin & Marshall College in hopes of an upset but the host Diplomats were able to notch a 5-0 win over the pesky Fords in Centennial Conference action Sunday morning.

Goalkeeper Sydney Hyder made seven saves for Haverford (6-5, 3-2 CC) to keep her team in the game with the undefeated, nationally-ranked Dips (11-0, 6-0), but the Fords' offense wasn't able to get on track in the other end of play.

Though the Fords trailed F&M in shots by only a 14-10 count, just four of the 10 Haverford attempts were on goal -- two in each half.

The contest was deadlocked at 0-0 through the opening 15 minutes of first-half action but F&M finally broke through with a goal at 15:25 to take the lead. A pair of Diplomat goals in the 28th minute increased the lead to three creating a hole too deep from which the Fords were able to recover.

Haverford will hit the road again for its next outing, a noon Centennial contest Saturday against Johns Hopkins University (5-6, 2-3) in Baltimore, Md.
