Hyder's play in goal earns conference weekly honor

LANCASTER, Pa. – Haverford College junior goalkeeper Sydney Hyder was selected as the Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Week by the league office Monday afternoon.

Hyder helped lead her team to a 2-0 week in which the Fords (10-7, 6-4 CC) clinched a home playoff berth in the conference's postseason tournament.

Against host Washington College in the penultimate game of the regular season, Hyder stopped six shots while allowing one goal in Haverford's 2-1 midweek victory over the Shorewomen. With a playoff spot on the line Sunday against Swarthmore College, she added seven more saves to her week surrendering just one early goal to the Garnet as the Fords triumphed 3-1 over the visitors and clinched the No. 4-seed in the league playoffs.

Hyder finished with an .867 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average in the two wins.

The Fords host Washington (10-7, 6-4) Wednesday night at Swan Field in the opening round of the conference tournament.
