Fords place three on all-region squad

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Roxanne Jaffe, Bridget Gibbons and Mary Hobbs of the Haverford College field hockey team have been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) 2011 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-South Region Team, as announced Wednesday by the organization.

The same trio were named to the 2011 All-Centennial Conference Team on November 7. Jaffe and Gibbons were voted first-team all-conference while Hobbs earned a second-team selection.

Jaffe was named first-team all-region for the third straight year. She scored a career-best seven goals during the season and added five assists for a total of 19 points, third-most for the Fords. One of Jaffe's two game-winning goals this fall came in Haverford's 2-1 regular season come-from-behind victory at Washington College in the second-to-last game in the regular season.

Gibbons and Hobbs garnered second-team region honors, each for the first time in their careers.

Gibbons registered a career-high six assists this season to go along with five goals. Her 16 points was fourth-most on the team and she led the Fords in 2011 with a pair of defensive saves.

Hobbs led the Fords' attack in 2011 with a career-best 21 goals, second-best in the conference. She also contributed eight assists (first in the Centennial) for a total of 50 points which, too, was second-highest in the league. Hobbs tallied the game-winner in the 3-2 opening round win of the 2011 league playoffs where she scored with 57 seconds remaining to complete a Haverford come-back from a 2-0 deficit against visiting Washington.

Both Gibbons and Hobbs earned recognition on the conference's 2011 fall sports academic honor roll.
