Sixteen from field hockey named to NFHCA academic squad

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's field hockey team placed 16 of its players onto the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad. The Fords have also been honored with a D-III national academic team award.

Seniors Molly Braun, Christine Gall, Roxanne Jaffe, Juliana Morgan-Trostle and Margaret Selsor are joined on the squad by juniors Sarah Crist, Bridget Gibbons, Mary Hobbs, Sydney Hyder, Courtney Knill, Alyssa Mayo and Christie Quake, and sophomore Bryn Bissey.

First-year players Jacque Fagan, Hannah Morgan and Sedona Murphy also made the team which requires student-athletes to achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or higher in the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

Haverford is one of 111 D-III field hockey programs to have achieved a minimum team GPA of 3.00 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year, earning inclusion on the national academic team listing.

Of the Fords making the national academic squad, eight -- Braun, Crist, Gall, Gibbons, Hobbs, Hyder, Mayo and Morgan-Trostle -- were also named to the Centennial Conference academic honor roll in the fall.

Hobbs, a second-team all-conference performer, was  named to the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly-SIDA 2011 Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team in December. Gibbons and Jaffe were first-team all-Centennial selections.
