COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Haverford College's 11th-ranked field hockey team tried to rally in second-half action but was unable to overcome a halftime deficit in a 5-1 Centennial Conference loss to host Ursinus College on Wednesday night at Snell Field.

Megan Holt's goal in the 54th minute put Haverford (8-2, 3-1 Centennial) on the scoreboard and ignited an offensive surge which included 25 second-half shots and 12 penalty corners, but Ursinus (5-4, 3-2) held firm and fought off the Fords' furious pressure.

Trailing 5-0 after falling behind by four during first-half play, Holt was able to deflect a shot from Bridget Gibbons up and over Bears netminder Brittany Dolson. The goal was Holt's fifth of the year and helped ignite a Haverford attack that had been limited to six shots, none on goal, during the opening 35 minutes.

Dolson battled in goal for Ursinus registering 14 second-half saves to keep resurgent Haverford from fighting its way back closer.

Fords goalie Lindsey Lopes accumulated five saves over the final 63 minutes of the game after taking over for starting keeper Sydney Hyder in the eighth minute after Ursinus' second goal.

Next up for the Fords is a home date against No. 8 Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at noon at Swan Field.
