NFHCA names Hobbs All-American

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday released its Longstreth/NFHCA 2012 Division III All-American Team and Haverford College's Mary Hobbs was voted to the squad's second team, the fourth Ford in program history to be named a field hockey all-American and the third in the past three seasons.

Hobbs is one of two Centennial Conference players to be named all-American with Franklin & Marshall College's Maura Hennigan also chosen for second-team honors.

Already this postseason Hobbs has been tabbed for first-team all-South region and all-Centennial honors. Tuesday's selection is her first national honor after having been named all-region twice and all-conference four times.

Hobbs is also a three-time member of the Centennial's academic honor roll, a 2011 NFHCA D-III National Academic Squad selectee and was voted onto the 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly-SIDA field hockey academic all-area team.

A four-year starter for Haverford, Hobbs leaves the program with career records in points (171), goals (65), assists (41) and game-winning goals (12). She is also tied atop the program's leader board in games played (76) and games started (75).

Hobbs' career numbers placed the Wilmington, Del., native within the Centennial's all-time leaders. She leaves her mark on the league with the fourth-most goals in conference history, ranks fifth in assists and is sixth in points.

The Fords' Class of 2013 with which Hobbs arrived is only the second graduating class to play into the postseason all four seasons, and the first to reach the semifinal round of a conference tournament each year. Haverford played in the Centennial tournament championship game in both 2012 and 2010, another first for the program.

Hobbs and her fellow seniors compiled a four-year record of 48-28 registering the most wins by a departing group, and their win percentage of .632 makes them the winningest class in program history.
