HAVERFORD, Pa. - Catherine Aronowitz scored once in each half and goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes came up with four saves in Haverford College's 2-0 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Johns Hopkins University Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

The Fords improve to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference with the win while Hopkins falls to 5-7 and 3-3, respectively.

The visiting Blue Jays owned a definitive edge in shots, 23-10, but Aronowitz was in the right place at the right time to make the most of the fewer Haverford chances.

In the 20th minute of the first half Aronowitz was left alone at the right post during a scrum in front of the Hopkins goal. Megan Holt gained possession of a loose ball near the front, middle of the cage and found her undefended teammate to her right for the game's opening tally.

Lopes kept the Fords ahead entering the intermission with a key save near the end of the half, kicking out a shot from the Blue Jays' Natalie Vicas with 87 seconds remaining on the clock.

Early second-half action produced only three shots until Aronowitz doubled the Haverford advantage in the 52nd minute.

Bryn Bissey started with the ball in the left corner and dribbled in along the end line, deking one defender as she continued toward the cage. As Bissey neared the post she slotted a ball across the mouth of the goal past the goalie where Aronowitz was waiting for an easy touch into the back of the goal for her second marker of the contest.

Hopkins built attacking pressure in the final minutes of the game, accumulating several penalty corner chances, but Lopes and the defense held firm to preserve the shutout victory for the home team.

Lopes' four saves earned her the victory while Zoey Atabek took the loss between the pipes for Hopkins after coming up with three saves but allowing a pair of goals. Holt added a defensive save, in the 58th minute, to aid the defensive efforts on the day.

Haverford welcomes Bryn Mawr College to Swan Field for its next contest, a 4:30 p.m. league battle on Wednesday.
