HAVERFORD, Pa. – Jen DiMaria registered the hat trick and Megan Holt scored twice for Haverford College in its 5-0 Centennial Conference field hockey victory over visiting Bryn Mawr College at Swan Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Holt put Haverford (7-5, 3-3 CC) up on the scoreboard first with an unassisted tally in the game's fourth minute.
After taking possession in her own half of the field, Holt weaved through several Owl defenders then angled into the circle toward the Bryn Mawr (3-9, 0-7) cage with goalkeeper Faith Westdorp coming off her line for the block. Holt's shot beat Westdorp between the pads for her fourth of the year to provide the Fords with the early advantage (video).
Only a little more than a minute later, DiMaria took her turn against Westdorp after splitting a pair of Owl defenders at the top of the circle. The busy goalie dove out for the block but DiMaria pulled the ball to her left side and swept a shot into the cage for her fourth of the season.
Bryn Bissey worked her way onto the stats sheet with Haverford's next goal, driving along the end line from the left corner and feeding DiMaria in front of the cage for an easy one-touch goal in the 17th minute.
Holt scored just before hafltime, with an assist from DiMaria, to allow the Fords to carry a comfortable 4-0 lead into the break.
DiMaria closed out the scoring less than two minutes into second half action, rocketing a shot from just inside the top, left circle to beat Bryn Mawr netminder Alex Weinfeld, who had replaced Westdorp at the beginning of the half.
The Fords' starting goalie, Lindsey Lopes, earned the win needing to only make one first-half save. She gave way to backup netminder Abby Frerotte coming out of the intermission with Frerotte also picking up one save in the contest.
Haverford's five goals and the combined shutout registered by Lopes and Frerotte pushes the scoring totals in the past seven games against the Owls to a 62-3 advantage for the Fords.
Wednesday's victory also extended Haverford's win streak over Bryn Mawr to 17 straight. Since the beginning of the Centennial, in 1993, Haverford is 19-4 against the Owls.
The Fords hit the road for their next two games, a pair of conference contests, heading to McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon followed by a night game Wednesday at Washington College.
