Field Hockey Receives Votes in National Coaches' Poll

NFHCA Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team received votes in the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association's (NFHCA) top 20 National Coaches' Poll today. It's the first time that the Fords had received votes in the poll since being ranked No. 15 on October 30th, 2012.

The Fords have won six straight games and are 7-2 overall (3-0 CC). Haverford's winning streak is the best since 2012 and is tied for the fourth longest in program history.

Sophomore Elena Veale scored both goals for Haverford last week and has registered tallies in four consecutive games for the first time in her career, leading to her being selected as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week. She has five goals during that stretch, adding to her career high with seven this year.

Senior Allison Martin, with defensive saves in back-to-back games for the first time in her career, was picked as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. In the Fords' win over Muhlenberg, the senior registered her 10th career defensive save in the 24th minute. On Saturday at Gettysburg, the defender came up with a huge clear off a dangerous rebound in the 67th minute and a defensive save after the Bullets were rewarded an untimed penalty corner as time expired.

Head coach Jackie Cox's squad will face back-to-back top-ten teams with No. 8 Ursinus at Swan Field on Wednesday (7 p.m.) and No. 6 Franklin and Marshall on the road next Saturday.
