HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 8 Ursinus College Bears proved to be too much as they took down the Haverford College field hockey team, 4-1, at Swan Field on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Fords' six-game winning streak came to an end.

Haverford registered the first scoring chance in the fifth minute, but Ursinus' goalie Danielle DeSpirito came up with a save. The No. 8 ranked team got on the board in the 19th minute as Devin Brakel shot the ball to the far post on a cross from Stephanie Cooper. Just over a minute later, Megan Keenan gave the Bears a 2-0 lead.

The Fords' best scoring chance in the first stanza came just before the buzzer. In the 33rd minute, DeSpirito tallied back-to-back saves off of senior captain Sarah Waldis. Sophomore Paige Carson found the rebound on her stick, but Cooper stopped her shot from going in for the defensive save.

Brakel scored her second of the contest in the 48th minute off an assist from Keenan and Danielle Stong. Stong tallied a goal eight minutes later from Keenan off a penalty corner. In the 67th minute, the Fords got one back. After peppering DeSpirito with shots, senior Brenna Boehman found an open Nicole Witte, who deposited the ball in the back of the cage for her second goal of the season and third of her career.

Senior Lindsey Lopes secured 12 saves in the loss, just one shy of tying her career high. Waldis' four shots led the Fords while Witte added two. Keenan led all scorers with four points on the night, which puts her third in the conference with 26.

Head coach Jackie Cox's squad dropped to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference while Ursinus improved to 8-2 this season and 4-1 in conference play. These two teams, Muhlenberg and Wasington College have just one conference loss. The Fords' next opponent, Franklin and Marshall, is undefeated in conference play and is ranked No. 6 in the country. That game is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m.
