Field Hockey's Carson Named Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Centennial Conference announced on Monday afternoon that Haverford junior Paige Carson has been named the league's co-offensive field hockey player of the week after scoring a hat trick to lead the Fords to a 4-2 win over Eastern on Wednesday evening at Swan Field.

The honor is the first Centennial Conference weekly award selection for the product of Denver, Colo. and George Washington High School. Haverford has now had at least one player win player of the week in each of the past eight seasons. Carson shares the honor with Rachel Strow of Muhlenberg, who became the first player since 1992 to score in each of the first three games of a season for the Mules.

On Wednesday, the Fords got on the scoreboard first with a Carson goal in the eighth minute of action. Carson took a feed from Casey Wakai, who fed the ball into the circle, allowing Carson to put the Fords up 1-0 with a strike towards the right side of the cage. In the 18th minute, Carson scooped up a rebound from a Mason McNulty shot and hammered it home craftily past Berger to give the Fords a 2-1 lead.

Carson netted the game-winner in the 64th minute as Carson completed the hat-trick for a career high in goals and points, redirecting an Elena Veale shot attempt into the goal. The offensive outburst gave Carson a tie for ninth in Haverford history in goals scored in a single game.

Carson and Haverford (2-2) continues with non-conference action on Wednesday night at Immaculata (6:30 p.m.) before traveling to Dickinson to open up conference action at 11:00 a.m on Saturday.
