Season Review: Field Hockey Returns To Postseason

Signature wins: Haverford (10-8, 6-4 Centennial) returned to the postseason for the second consecutive season and the seventh time overall in the fall of 2016, falling 4-3 in overtime to Dickinson in the first round of playoff action. The team got out to a hot start with wins over Cabrini and Eastern in non-conference play with Paige Carson registering a hat-trick against the Eagles at Swan Field.

The Fords were buoyed into the postseason by winning the last five regular season contests in Centennial play. Haverford goalkeeper Danielle Rette posted three shutouts in the dominant stretch, and surrendered just three goals overall in the five contests. A 1-0 win on the road at Johns Hopkins helped pull the Fords past the Blue Jays in the conference standings and Haverford did not look back.

The Fords also notched a 4-1 takedown of McDaniel at home on Senior Day before prevailing in a double-overtime thriller against Washington College in the home finale that clinched a playoff appearance for the Fords. The win over Washington College was the Fords first two-overtime contest since the 2005 campaign and helped the Fords even the all-time series with the Shorewomen. Rette's five overall shutouts represented a tie for the fifth most in Haverford history.

The squad loses just two starters to graduation (Leslie and Nicole Witte).  Haverford will return most all of its scoring offense as Carson and McNulty headline the forward line with 32 of 36 goals returning. First-year impact starters Lucy Tortolani, Casey Wakai, Rachel Gordon and Caroline Aronowitz will all return for their sophomore campaigns after contributing immediately to a postseason appearance in their collegiate debuts.
