HAVERFORD, Pa. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its annual academic awards on Thursday afternoon, and Haverford was well-represented. The Fords placed an NCAA Division III-best 23 student-athletes on the National Academic Squad. The 23 individual academic awards were also a program record. In addition, Allyson Lynch was named a 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III Scholar of Distinction and the Fords were named one of 133 Division III programs to earn the Division III National Academic Team Award.

The Division III National Academic Squad program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

Haverford was represented by four-time honorees Jolie Brakey, Paige Carson, Alexandra Fascione-Hutchins and Stephanie Terrell. The Fords earning the award for a third time include Charlotte Eisenberg, Mason McNulty and Alissa Valentine.

Second-time honorees include Caroline Aronowitz, Elena Veale, Rylee Fennell, Rachel Gordon, Malin Ehrsam and Danielle Rette.

First-time recipients included Kelsey Chai, Maura Herbertson, Emma Iacobucci, Leela Krishnan, Lynch, Carolin SchmidtAriana Sulpizio, Lucy Tortolani, Sunny Truslow and Roxy Vassighi.

Lynch received the scholar of distinction honor as a first-year, becoming one of 246 student-athletes from 106 institutions. Lynch is the first Haverford student-athlete to garner the plaudit since Paige Carson and Sarah Waldis picked up the award after the 2014 campaign. 

The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

Additionally, Haverford earned The Division III National Academic Team Award for the 12th straight season. The honor recognizes those programs that earned a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the Fall Semester of the 2017-18 academic year. 

On the field, Haverford took another leap forward reaching the Centennial semifinals for the first time since 2015. Haverford reached the Centennial Conference tournament for the third straight season and eighth time in the last nine seasons. The Fords have now won at least 10 games in seven of head coach Jackie Cox's eight seasons at the helm.
