NFHCA National Academic Team Award Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its annual academic awards on Wednesday morning. The Fords picked up the Division III National Academic Team Award, while seeing 21 student-athletes named to the National Academic Squad.

Haverford was one of 131 programs in Division III to earn the National Academic Team Award, posting the fourth-highest GPA among all Division III squads. The Fords earned the plaudit for the 13th consecutive season. The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2018-19 school year.

The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year. In total, 1,746 student-athletes from 147 institutions were honored. Haverford was represented on the National Academic Squad by four-time honorees Charlotte Eisenberg, Mason McNulty, and Alissa Valentine. Three-time honorees included Caroline Aronowitz, Rylee Fennell, and Rachel Gordon.

Second-time honorees included Kelsey Chai, Maura Herbertson, Emma Iacobucci, Leela Krishnan, Allyson Lynch, Carolin Schmidt, Ariana Sulpizio, Lucy Tortolani and Sunny Truslow. First-time honorees were Caroline Channell, Ravenel Davis, Amanda Grebas, Sophia Mercado, Julie Post, and Keishla Sanchez.

The academic awards followed Haverford's 14 Centennial Conference Honor Roll selections, the most in the conference. In 2019, The Fords will look to be in solid position to return to the Centennial Conference playoffs after a year hiatus, returning 22 of its 25 goals from the fall season. Rising senior Aronowitz and a strong rising junior class that includes lockdown defenders Krishnan and Lynch will help anchor a fortified back line.
