2016-17 Men's Fencing Schedule

2016-17 Women's Fencing Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's and women's fencing teams have announced their respective 2016-17 schedules. The upcoming season will feature three chances to catch both teams on their home strips under 10th year head coach Chris Spencer.

The season begins with individual competition at the Temple Open. The men get the season started on Saturday, October 29 in Philadelphia before the women follow on Sunday. The first team competition of the year will see the Fords travel to the Vassar Invitational on November 13. The fall semester portion of the schedule will come to a close with the first two home dates on the schedule. Defending champions in these events on both the men's and women's side, Haverford will host the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational (Nov. 19) and Tri-Co/Haverford Holiday Invitational (Dec. 3) before breaking for the holidays.

When the team returns to campus for its winter training, the Fords will start preparations for some of their toughest competition of the year. Up first will be the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, January 15. The following weekend will be the Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania with the men opening the action on Saturday and the women following suit on Sunday. The grueling month of January will see both teams take part in the Sollee Invitational on January 29.

That tough slate in January looks to prepare the teams for a strong showing in the conference tournaments. The men will be the first to start conference play with the MACFA "A" vs. "C" Tournament before both teams converge for the annual Alumni/ae Match/Banquet on Saturday, February 11. The teams will split up at the end of the month with the women traveling to the EWFC Championship (Feb. 19) and NIWFA Championship (Feb. 25) while the men will continue MACFA action over those two weekends. The women placed third at the EWFC Team Championship and fifth at the NIWFA Championship in 2015, while the men were fourth at the MACFA Championship a season ago.

March will be the month where individuals' hard work throughout the year will shine through with the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday, March 11. Any qualifying individuals would then advance to the NCAA National Championship which spans from Thursday, March 23 through Sunday, March 26.
