HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's fencing team hosted the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational on Saturday afternoon with those bouts also counting as the MACFA "C" Round Robin results. The Fords went 3-1 with wins over Maryland, Navy, and William & Mary during their only home bouts of the season. Despite winning two of the three weapons against Johns Hopkins, an epee deficit proved too much for the Fords' foilists and sabrists to overcome in a 15-12 defeat.

Those foil and sabre squads were each a perfect 4-0 on the day and combined for identical 28-8 records. The foilists recorded the only 9-0 record of the afternoon for Haverford, which came in the final round against William & Mary. Six different foil fencers saw action on the strips, with each of them winning at least four bouts while none took more than two defeats.

Jack Leighninger and Alton Wiggers each led their squad with six victories. Both fencers were a perfect 3-0 in the sweep of W&M to close the afternoon. Carter Langen also went 3-0 in the victory against the Tribe to finish with five victories to his credit. Aldis Gamble and Yan Yan Xie both posted 4-1 records, including 2-1 results against rival Johns Hopkins. Russell Rivera won three of his four individual matchups, posting a 3-0 record against the Midshipmen of Navy.

Haverford's sabrists were led by a team-high 10 wins across all weapons from sophomore John Hare. The defending MACFA squad champion won each of its squad matchups. Hare collected two bouts from Johns Hopkins and finished his day with back-to-back 3-0 showings against Navy and William & Mary. David Parker went a perfect 9-0, sitting out Haverford's win over William & Mary where first-year Kagan Harris won a bout during that third round matchup. Co-captain Gabriel Braun collected an 8-4 record on Saturday, going 3-0 against Maryland and William & Mary.

Epee bookended its day with 5-4 squad wins against Maryland and William & Mary during the first and last rounds of fencing. Co-captain Ian Wheeler led the epeeists with eight wins in that weapon against just four defeats. He collected three of the team's five bouts during the first and last round of fencing. Kadan Lottick collected the other two bouts against the Terrapins, adding one more against the Midshipmen to finish with three victories. Adrian Ballard gathered Haverford's other two bouts in the closing matchup with William & Mary.

Men's fencing will now have one final competition to put a wrap on the fall semester portion of the schedule. The Fords will travel to Madison, New Jersey in two weeks to take part in the Drew Holiday Invitational on Saturday, December 2. Fencing at Drew will begin at 10 a.m. that day.
