NEWARK, N.J. – The Haverford College men's fencing team went unblemished with a 4-0 team record in the MACFA "B" vs. "C" bouts on Sunday. Haverford finishes the MACFA round robins with an 11-2 record overall after its first undefeated conference weekend of the season. The unbeaten weekend was the second such effort from the Fords this year as they were a perfect 5-0 during the Drew Holiday Invitational back in December.

Haverford's foilists dominated the competition with an overall record of 30-6. In Haverford's closest team bouts, which were 15-12 wins over Stevens and Hunter, the foil squad won by respective 7-2 and 8-1 margins. That 8-1 advantage against Hunter overcame slight deficits in both epee and sabre. The foilists also turned in a perfect 9-0 showing against Army.

Alton Wiggers led his weapon squad with eight victories in his nine bouts, going unbeaten against Army and Hunter. Jack Leighninger fenced only the two close team bouts of the day, but definitely delivered when he was called upon with a 6-0 record during that time. Carter Langen picked up seven wins in his nine bouts, posting a perfect record in the win against Army. Aldis Gamble (5-1 record) and Russell Rivera (4-2 record) were also keys with two wins against Stevens to start the day. Gamble had a perfect 3-0 round on his resume against Army.

The epeeists doubled up their opponents with 24 wins against just 12 defeats. The lone squad setback was a narrow 5-4 defeat in the final round against Hunter. Kadan Lottick led that squad with an 8-1 mark, going 6-0 combined against Army and Hunter during the final two rounds. Adrian Ballard fenced all four rounds, claiming seven wins on the strength of 2-1 marks during the first three rounds. Devin Louis matched the winning percentage of his squad with a 6-3 record. His day was highlighted by 3-0 record against both Yeshiva and Army. Ian Wheeler split his six bouts, taking one off of Stevens and two more against Yeshiva.

Haverford's winningest fencer on Sunday came from the sabre squad as John Hare contested all four rounds and was victorious in 10 of his 12 individual bouts. He was unbeaten against Yeshiva and Army, adding crucial 2-1 marks during key matchups against Stevens and Hunter. David Parker posted five wins, including a perfect 3-0 record against Army. Kagan Harris split his six bouts. Both he and Gabriel Braun picked up two wins during the second round match with Yeshiva.

Men's fencing will now have a full two weeks to prepare for the MACFA Championship which is set for Sunday, March 4 at Lafayette. The Fords are reigning MACFA sabre squad champions in that event with each those fencers returning from last year's squad victory. As a team, Haverford placed third overall last year and was just a few bouts away from the team's sixth MACFA Championship in program history.
