HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Saturday, the men's fencing team hosted the first of three MACFA (Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association) tournaments inside the Alumni Field House, finishing second in a field which included the fencing squads from Navy, Johns Hopkins, and William & Mary.

The Fords sank Navy 19-8, in revenge for their loss in the 2019 season, their last match-up, and grounded William & Mary, 16-11. The Johns Hopkins team was too deep for the Fords and won 18-9, a reversal of their last match-up at the 2020 MACFA Championships. The epee and sabre squads each pulled their weight with 14 wins apiece. The foil squad carried the most wins at 15, however when they faltered against William & Mary, the sabre squad picked up the slack with a 7-2 drubbing.

For most of the day, the competitor to watch was Jax Wittenberg, as his 8-2 record led the foil squad and the team. With six wins and three losses, both sabrist Lucas Winkler and foilist Carter Langen did their share, while the epee squad split their wins most evenly, with Daniel Carvalho, Jacob Fink, Edward Shin, and Vivek Veluvali all posting a 50 percent or better win rate.

The Fords will now next compete at the Tri-Co Invitational, which they will host on Dec 4 in the Gooding '84 Arena.
