MADISON, N.J. -  On Sunday, March 6, the Haverford men's fencing team wrapped up their season at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Championships, held at Drew University. Led by the stellar performances of sabrists Nick Conroy and Lucas Winkler, who each won 11 of 12 bouts during the team event, the sabre squad placed second, while the Fords overall were sixth out of a field of 13 teams.  NJIT won the tournament for the fourth time in the last five championships, with Johns Hopkins and Drew earning Silver and Bronze, respectively.

Sabrist Winkler was seeded first into the 16-slot Individual Direct Elimination round after team play, and made short work of his first two opponents, Jake Kurtz-Freilich from Drew and Colin Mahoney from Stevens Tech. In the Final Four, Winkler was overcome by the defensive play of Hopkin's Sachin Mehta, and placed third overall, Haverford's first sabre medal since 2018. Conroy also seeded high into the Individual DE, won his first bout against Navy's Sebastian Keefer, but dropped in the second round to eventual silver medalist Mehta, and placed fifth.

The sixth place eepee squad yielded no qualifiers to the Individual DE, but the seventh place foil squad did squeak in both Carter Langen and Jax Wittenberg, who placed 14th and 11th, respectively.

Next Saturday the post-season begins with the NCAA Regional Championships, held at Princeton. Qualifiers from the Haverford men's team are Danny Carvalho, Nick Conroy, Carter Langen, Vivek Veluvali, Lucas Winkler, and Jax Wittenberg. They will battle through the toughest Region in the NCAA with opponents from Penn State, Princeton, Duke and UNC, among many others, in an attempt to qualify to the DI NCAA Nationals to be held at Notre Dame March 24-27.
