Why did you choose Haverford?
I chose Haverford because I went to a very small high school, and being able to connect with my teachers was something very important for me. I really enjoyed the fact that I could go to a teacher outside of the classroom and ask for help or share my ideas about an essay or something that we were learning in class and receive genuine feedback rather than be pushed aside. That's something that was really important for me coming into college, and Haverford seemed to offer that. I think I made the right decision in that department.

What is your favorite team experience?
My favorite team experience is at the beginning of every year when we get together and do a team barbecue outside of the apartments. I feel like it's a really great way to get to know everybody before the season starts. We get to welcome all the first years and all the returning athletes get to see each other. I think it's a really good way to meet everybody in a very informal setting before gearing up for the season. We really start to form connections with each other. Everything that we do as a team outside of practice is student-run without coaches involved, which speaks to the whole Haverford experience. We're paving our own route, and we don't really need any kind of oversight to do that.

Why did you choose to play a sport in college?
I decided to play a sport in college because in high school, going to practice in the evenings and then competing on the weekends was a schedule that gave me a time to work around and kept me focused throughout the year. Keeping that structure going into Haverford was something that was really important for me, especially since entering this new never-before-seen territory was a little daunting at first. On top of that, being able to have time at the end of the day after classes where I could relieve stress, and be with people that I enjoy being with, all while exercising, was something that was really important to me.

What advice would you give a high school student considering Haverford?
Some advice that I would give to a high school student considering Haverford would be to come and do an overnight stay. I think being able to spend time with the students here is something that's most important because you can walk around many different college campuses and speak to coaches and professors from other small liberal arts schools, but they'll all seem very similar. When you come and meet the people at Haverford, I think you'll understand that the people here truly care about one another, and I think that's something that you can only really grasp once you do an overnight here.
