EASTON, Pa. - The NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South fencing Regional Championships were held Saturday, March 11, at Lafayette College. Haverford capped the season by taking on the best in the nation from Penn State, Princeton, Duke and other powerhouse programs in what is widely considered the strongest regional tournament in collegiate fencing.

Haverford qualified 11 fencers to the tournament, four from the women's team and seven from the men; not all qualifiers were able to compete, as the field was capped at 36 competitors for each weapon.

Foilists Henry Fedonchik and Michael Pyo led all fencers with two wins apiece in the first round pools. Fedonchik deftly defeated Michael Desandro from Drew and Jake McGillon-Moore from North Carolina. Pyo took down Brown from Lafayette and Drew Henri Dregemont.

Fellow foilists Andrew Strayer and Jax Wittenberg each picked up a win as well, against Lafayette's Benito Hergert and NJIT's Josh Schaefer, respectively.  Epeeist Vivek Veluvali won his first match of the day 5-2 against Penn's Dennis Fleysh, but was held winless after that.

Despite these hard fought wins in the first round, none of the Fords made the cut to the second round of the Regionals.

For Haverford, it is now back to the drawing board to retool for the 2023-24 season.
