Fencing Teams Reveal 2023-24 Schedules

2023-2024 Men's Fencing Schedule

2023-2024 Women's Fencing Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College Men's and Women's Fencing teams have unveiled their 2023-24 schedules. The Men's squad will be challenged in nine regular season fencing competitions this season, while the Women's Fencing team will be squaring off in eight regular season fencing bouts. Both the Men's and Women's Fencing teams are led by Coach Chris Spencer, who will be entering his 17th season at the helm of the Fords.

Haverford's Women's Fencing team will start off the season at the familiar confines of the Liacouras Center for the Temple Open on November 4, followed by the Men's Fencing team on November 5.

November 12 sees both the Men's and Women's teams traveling to Poughkeepsie N.Y. for the Vassar Invitational. The competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

December 9 marks the annual D'Arnstein '09 Invitational, which will be Haverford's first home event of the season on Saturday, November 16. The competition will also be Haverford's annual Play with Pride Match.

The spring semester kicks off in Happy Valley, for the Penn State Invitational. The Women's Fencing team is scheduled for January 14, while the Men's Fencing team will spar off on January 15.

Both teams return from Penn State to a competition they're no stranger to, as the University of Pennsylvania will host the Philadelphia Invitational on January 20.

The Fords will then head back up north to Waltham, Massachusetts, for the Eric Sollee Invitational hosted by Brandeis University, on January 27.

The Andy Kates Fencing Salle will then be home to both teams, as well as many former Haverford fencers, for the annual alumni/ae bout on February 3.

On February 11, the Men's fencing team will compete in the  MACFA "A" vs. "C" competition, while the Women's fencing team will be battling in the MACFA Shadow Meet.

The following week, the Women's Fencing team will enter postseason mode, as they will be contending in the Eastern Women's Fencing Championships in Madison N.J. hosted by Drew University on February 18. Haverford look to build upon last year's result, where they placed 7th out of 10th teams.

That same day, the Men's Fencing team return to action, with the MACFA "B" vs. "C" competition at a venue still to be determined.

One more competition rounds out the regular season, as the Scarlet and Black head up to Brooklyn, for the LIU Shark Showdown on February 25.

March 2 marks a return to Drew University for the Women's Fencing Team, as they look to make some noise in the NIWFA Championships, following last season's performance where they earned 10th place.

The Men's Fencing team will also head to Drew University that weekend, as they will compete in the MACFA Championships on March 3. Last season, the Fords placed sixth out of 15 contending teams.

The NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional then await only qualified fencers on March 9. Last season, the Fords qualified 11 fencers (7 for the Men's team and 4 for the Women's team) for the grueling Regional. Haverford fencers picked up seven wins on the day, with first year Foilists Michael Pyo and Henry Fedonchik pacing the Fords with two wins each. Despite the memorable wins, no Haverford Fencers were able to make it past the second round of the regional.

The NCAA Fencing Championships will be held in Columbus, Ohio this year, hosted by Ohio State University. The Women's Fencing Championships will begin on March 20, while the Men's Fencing Championships will begin on March 21.
