WALTHAM, Mass. - This past Saturday, the Haverford College men's fencing team travelled to Brandeis University, just outside of Boston, for the Sollée Invitational, a gruelling and challenging tournament that brings in some of the best teams from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions.

Led by first-year phenom Eric Chen, the Fords epee squad showed that they could hang with the best, with wins over Duke, Boston College, and Brown. Chen's 12-3 record on the day was the best on the team, with squad mates Daniel Carvalho (6-6), Kenji Gullo (4-8), Jacob Fink (2-1) and Raphael Yamamoto (1-2) all contributing to the positive results.

Foil stud Michael Pyo continued his winning ways with a 9-6 record, including 2 wins against Duke and a clean sweep of Brown. Pyo also passed the 100 win mark at this tournament, with 108, putting him on track with all-time foil score leaders Yan Yan Xie '20 and Max Findley '15. Fellow foilist Andrew Strayer also contributed a hard-fought 4 wins to the foil squad tally.

Sabrist Lucas Winkler shouldered the most for his squad, pulling in 6 wins, whilst squad mates Prem Bhatt, Deep Patel and Jack Greff each contributed one win on the day. Winkler had the only sabre wins against ACC D1 powerhouses Duke and Boston College.

The Fords will have a welcome weekend off from NCAA matches this coming Saturday, spending the day in friendly competition with alumni visiting for the 16th annual Alumni Bouts and Banquet.
