Firestone makes tracks to North/South all-star lacrosse game

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior defenseman Grant Firestone of the Haverford College men's lacrosse team has been selected by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) to play in the 2010 USILA/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game at Goucher College in Towson, Md., Friday, May 28 at 3 p.m.

Firestone will be one of six Centennial Conference players on the 30-man South squad which will be led by Goucher head coach Kyle Hannan.

A 2010 First-Team All-Centennial Conference honoree, Firestone helped lead the Fords into the quarterfinal round of the 2010 NCAA D-III lacrosse championship, the deepest Haverford has ever made it into the national tournament.

The Fords' defense allowed just 8.11 goals per game this season, the lowest mark the team has registered since giving up 6.7 goals per game in the 1977 season.

Firestone started 17 games on the back line this year and finished the season with 51 ground balls, second-most on the team, and 28 caused turnovers. His four-year total of 187 ground ball pick-ups are ninth-most in program history while he ranks third in career games started (54) and is tied for second all-time in games played (64).
