Banno, Hjelm sweep weekly conference awards after championship week

LANCASTER, Pa. – The day after capturing the Centennial Conference tournament crown, a pair of Haverford College men's lacrosse players swept the weekly conference honors as goalie Joe Banno was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Max Hjelm was tabbed for the Offensive award in a release by the league office Monday afternoon.

Banno came up big for the Fords time and time again during the Centennial tournament registering 14 saves—including six fourth period saves—in a double-overtime semifinal win against No. 5 Dickinson College, then added 15 more saves in the championship final against No. 2 Gettysburg College. The sophomore netminder finished the tournament with a 9.06 goals against average.

Hjelm put together a seven goal weekend at the tournament finding the net three times in the semifinal victory against Dickinson then registering four goals in the championship final over Gettysburg. In both contests Hjelm scored the opening tally of the game and his final goal in the Gettysburg match-up was tagged as the game-winner. Two of his scores came on man-up opportunities.
