Fords fall to Shoremen in 2nd conference outing of season

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College used a few early scores to jump ahead of Haverford College in the Fords' 12-3 loss to the Shoremen on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse action.

Haverford (1-6, 0-2 CC) fell behind 3-0 to Washington (5-2, 2-0) after one period of action but added a goal from Henry Lanier in the early minutes of the second to cut into the Shoremen's cushion. Washington reeled off four unanswered goals after Lanier's marker, though, to take an 8-1 lead into the halftime break.

The Fords picked up goals from Phillip Valliant, his team-leading 17th, and Geoff Geppert in second-half play but the Shoremen added four of their own to put the finishing touches on their win.

Joe Banno finished with seven saves in goal for Haverford which out shot its hosts in the final quarter but added only Geppert's tally to the stat sheet.

Washington's Peter Stewart picked up the win in goal, stopping 11 Haverford shots in the contest.

Haverford heads back on the road for its next game, a Saturday trip to McDaniel College -- also 0-2 in the league -- for a 6 p.m. match-up.
