Fords downed by #8 Dickinson

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's men's lacrosse team equaled visiting Dickinson College over the first period of action Saturday on Swan Field but the eighth-ranked Red Devils eased ahead over the next two frames then settled for a 10-4 Centennial Conference win over the host Fords.

Haverford falls to 2-7 overall and 1-3 within the conference with Saturday's loss while Dickinson improves to 9-1 and 3-0, respectively.

The Red Devils opened the scoring early with a Sam Abramson goal just 50 seconds into the first period but Haverford's Christian Clay scored the equilizer at the 11:06 mark, taking a feed from Phillip Valliant and scoring his 10th goal of the year.

The underdog Fords hung with the Red Devils over the rest of the opening frame and through most of the second, despite a Dickinson score in the second period's third minute, until two goals late in the period allowed the visitors to take a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.

Haverford generated an 11-7 edge in shots in the third period but Dickinson's marksmen scored four times before Jordan Hitchcock could net the Fords' second goal of the game, slamming home his first of the year after taking a pass from Henry Millson who picked up the assist.

The Fords owned a 10-8 edge in faceoffs and held the high-scoring Dickinson offense to an 0-for-5 day when playing with an extra man, but the middle 30 minutes of action created too big of a hole from which Haverford could climb.

Jake Maldonado and Scott Chanelli scored the other two Haverford markers with each notching one goal in the fourth period.

Joe Banno finished the day with six saves in goal for Haverford while Dickinson's Greg Hanley registered seven saves during the win.

The Fords host FDU-Florham in their next outing in a non-conference battle on Swan Field at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 7.
