Four from men's lacrosse earn all-conference nods

LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior midfielder Phillip Valliant led a quartet of Haverford College men's lacrosse players onto the 2012 All-Centennial Conference team as voted on by the league's coaches and released by the conference office Thursday morning.

A second-team player in 2011, Valliant was tabbed a first-team performer in 2012 while teammates Joe Banno, Scott Chanelli and Dillon Hamill were named second-team all-conference players this postseason.

Valliant netted 27 goals and 32 points to lead the Fords in the attacking end in 2012. He posted five multi-goal games including eight in a 16-9 victory over Skidmore and five in the Fords' 15-5 win over Ursinus. His 10 career man-up goals are tied for sixth-most in program history and Valliant's total of 74 career goals is 19th on Haverford's all-time list.

Banno, now a three-time all-conference player, closes out his four years between the pipes for Haverford with a record 41 career wins and a program-best 7.89 goals-against career average. His 706 saves are third-most on the program's all-time list. During the 2012 season Banno compiled a 5-8 record registering 10 saves in five games including a season-high 17 in the schedule's opening game against No. 7 Stevenson University. Banno's 13 wins in the 2011 campaign are a single-season Haverford record.

Long-stick midfielder Dillon Hamill, also a second-team player in 2010 and 2011, was a defensive force in 2012 for the Fords registering 40 caused turnovers, leading the team for the third consecutive year. He accumulated three or more caused turnovers in 10 of 12 games during his senior year including a season-best six during Haverford's 9-8 win over Franklin & Marshall College. In the Fords' win over Ursinus Hamill picked up four ground balls and won 6-of-7 at the faceoff dot.

Chanelli picks up his first all-league honor in 2012. The defender caused 33 turnovers, second only to Hamill, causing three or more in five games including five in the Fords' game against 15th-ranked Denison University. Chanelli increased his time at the faceoff dot as the season progressed and finished with a record of 43-of-70 (.544) for the year and he won 19-of-23 in Haverford's 14-6 victory over Fairleigh-Dickinson at Florham. His five goals during the season -- the first goals of his career -- led all Fords defensemen and his 74 ground ball pick-ups were nearly double any other player on the team.
