Haverford trio earn USILA All-American honors

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Three players -- Joe Banno, Dillon Hamill and Phillip Valliant -- from Haverford College have been named 2012 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) honorable mention All-Americans, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

All three Fords garnered All-Centennial Conference honors this season and both Banno and Hamill, voted second-team all-league players, were recently named to the Division III South roster for the 71st-Annual USILA/Laxworld North-South Classic senior all-star game at Harvard University on Friday, May 25.

Valliant, a senior in the midfield and first-team all-Centennial selection, netted 27 goals and 32 points to lead the Fords in the attacking end in 2012. He posted five multi-goal games including eight in a 16-9 victory over Skidmore and five in the Fords' 15-5 win over Ursinus. His 10 career man-up goals are tied for sixth-most in program history and Valliant's total of 74 career goals is 19th on Haverford's all-time list.

A three-time all-conference and now a two-time all-American goalkeeper, Banno closed out his four years between the pipes for Haverford with a record 41 career wins and a program-best 7.89 goals-against career average. His 706 saves are third-most on the program's all-time list. During the 2012 season Banno compiled a 5-8 record registering 10 or more saves in five games including a season-high 17 in the schedule's opening game against eventual national semifinalist Stevenson University. Banno's 13 wins in the 2011 campaign are a single-season Haverford record.

Hamill was also a second-team all-conference player in 2010 and 2011 and earned his first all-American selection with honorable mention honors in 2011. A long-pole midfielder for the Fords, he registed 40 caused turnovers leading the team for the third consecutive year. Hamill accumulated three or more caused turnovers in 10 of 12 games during his senior year including a season-best six during Haverford's 9-8 win over Franklin & Marshall College. In the Fords' win over Ursinus Hamill picked up four ground balls and won 6-of-7 at the faceoff dot.
