Senior duo named USILA Scholar All-Americans

PERRY, N.Y. - Haverford College seniors Joe Banno and Dillon Hamill were named 2012 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans as announced by the organization.

The USILA Scholar All-America program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. To be named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team—which includes Divisions I, II and III— the player must be a senior and have been nominated for the all-America team.

Banno, a three-time All-Centennial Conference honoree and two-time all-American goalkeeper, closed out his four years between the pipes for Haverford with a record 41 career wins and a program-best 7.89 goals-against career average. His 706 saves are third-most on the program's all-time list. During the 2012 season Banno compiled a 5-8 record registering 10 or more saves in five games including a season-high 17 in the schedule's opening game against eventual national semifinalist Stevenson University. Banno's 13 wins in the 2011 campaign are a single-season Haverford record.

A long-pole midfielder for the Fords, Hamill earned alll-American honorable mention honors in 2011 and 2012. The three-time second-team all-conference player registered 40 caused turnovers in 2012 to lead the team for the third consecutive year.

The senior duo closed out their collegiate careers by participating in the prestigious USILA North-South senior all-star game hosted by Harvard University in May.

The USILA Scholar All-America Team, comprised of 74 student-athletes this year, is recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.
