Men's Lacrosse Tripped up by Dickinson, 9-7

CARLISLE, Pa. – Three different players scored multiple goals Saturday for the Haverford College men's lacrosse team. However, that team effort was not enough to overcome the host Red Devils as the Fords suffered a 9-7 defeat at Dickinson. The tough luck continued for Haverford as the Fords have now lost their last three Centennial Conference contests by a combined four goals. This includes taking the previous two contests into the overtime period.

Trailing 4-1 at the half, Haverford mounted a furious second half comeback but could never get level with Dickinson. Three separate times during the second half the Fords were within a single goal. Two of those times came in the game's final 16 minutes. Jack Bodine, Isaac Krier and Geoff Geppert each tallied two goals for the Fords in the victory, while Brandon Boccellari also scored in his first game back on the field. In goal, Eric Caliendo did everything he could to help the Fords earn a conference result as he made 16 saves.

Haverford's first tally of the game came with just nine seconds to play in the opening period as Tav Hafner found Krier cutting to goal, making the score 2-1 at the end of the first period. Dickinson added two more goals in the second period and took a 4-1 lead into the half.

The Fords brought the game within a single goal for the first time in the second half when Geppert and Bodine each scored unassisted goals to start the third period. Geppert's goal came just under two minutes into the second half, while Bodine scored with 8:49 to play in the third period.

With the score now 4-3, Dickinson scored twice within a 10 second span to open its lead back up to 6-3. However, the Fords answered with the final two goals of the third period. Bodine's second goal of the period, and eighth of the season, came off an assist from Patrick Girard with 3:14 left in the period. With under a minute to play in the third, Krier tallied his second goal of the game and 10th of the season, making the score 6-5 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Quick strikes from both teams opened the fourth period as Boccellari tallied his first goal of the season with 13:10 to play in the game, answering a Dickinson tally just 19 seconds into the fourth. The Red Devils also scored with 7:57 to play in the game to go up by two and added the ninth goal of the game just 10 seconds later. Geppert scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season with 1:37 to play in the contest, making the final score 9-7.

In goal, Caliendo faced 42 shots on Saturday. He stopped 16 of the 25 shots that were on target. The Red Devils' Nick Baxter made eight saves on 15 shotson goal for the win. In front of Caliendo, the Fords caused 13 turnovers. PJ Jackson and Sommer Stein each had two for Haverford. Mitch Hagan finished with a team-high five ground balls for the Fords.

Men's Lacrosse will return home on Wednesday to face off with Muhlenberg. That Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
