Men's Lacrosse Pounces on FDU-Florham, 18-3

TEANECK, N.J. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team controlled both the attack and defensive zones during an 18-3 victory over FDU-Florham on the road Sunday.

Haverford last scored 18 goals in a game just one season ago during an 18-6 victory on Swan Field against Mount Saint Mary (N.Y). The last time the Fords did that much damage on the road came in an 20-10 victory at York (Pa.) during the 2010 season. Before today, Haverford last held a team to three goals during a 16-3 win over Mount Saint Mary in 2014. The last time the defense was that stout on the road came during a 4-3 victory at McDaniel in 2012.

On top of that, the last time Haverford showed this type of prowess on both ends of the field and won by at least 15 goals was all the way back in 2009 during a 22-5 win at Eastern. That win also came during Haverford's fourth game of that season.

Sunday's attack was led by a career-high six goals from junior Chase Williams. Williams scored twice in each of the first three quarters. His final tally of the afternoon gave the Fords a 15-1 edge heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. Stephen DeLeo also reached a career high with his three goals on the day, while Kevin Goshorn netted a pair of goals during the winning effort.

Both Rob McLallen and Andrew Dalke each set up two scoring chances to go along with their own goal on Sunday. Jack Russ had a goal and an assist for the Fords. Zack Cohen, Evan Dorman, Zach Cole, and Tav Hafner also beat the defense in Haverford's offensive barrage. Additionally, Isaac Krier set up two scoring chances, while Garret Trucksess assisted on a goal for the first point of his career.

The Fords jumped out early and never looked back as the team's 18 goals matched FDU-Florham's 18 shots on the afternoon. Haverford scored three goals before the Devils took their third shot. FDU-Florham tallied its first goal of the afternoon just over nine minutes into the game, setting the score at 3-1.

However, the hosts would not get another goal until the 9:33 mark of the fourth quarter. During that 41-plus minute span in which the Fords had an absolute seal around the goal, Haverford scored 12 goals in a row to take a commanding 15-1 lead. The biggest advantage came via a 6-0 second quarter, which was backed up with a 5-0 edge in the third quarter.

Eric Caliendo stopped four of the six shots he faced during his 52:55 of playing time. Freshman Dylan Slack came on for his collegiate debut in the final 7:05 of playing time and stopped two of the three Devils' shots that he faced.

On face offs, the Fords won 20 of the 24 restarts. Cohen was responsible for 19 wins in his 22 attempts, while Mitch Hagen went 1-of-2 on the afternoon. Those face off wins helped Cohen collect a team-best six ground balls on the afternoon.

Men's lacrosse will look to keep the offense rolling this Wednesday when Gwynedd Mercy comes to Swan Field for a 4 p.m. start.
