Men's Lacrosse Continues to Roll, Wins 15-2 over Gwynedd Mercy

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team put together another dominating performance on Wednesday afternoon against visiting Gwynedd Mercy. The Fords (3-2) blistered the Griffins (1-2) with shots all afternoon en route to a 15-2 victory. Haverford has now outscored its opposition by a combined 33-5 margin during the past two games. The last time Haverford allowed two or fewer goals in a game came during the 2008 season when the Fords toppled FDU-Florham by a 14-2 score.

Chase Williams led Haverford with a game-high four goals on the afternoon. Williams' biggest production came in the third quarter. Already having scored a goal in the opening quarter, Williams recorded a third quarter hat trick with three goals in a span of just 6:19 of playing time. That output fueled a 7-0 third quarter that left no doubt heading into the final 15 minutes.

Isaac Krier scored one goal in each of the first three periods for his hat trick. He started the scoring with the game's first tally at the 6:41 mark of the opening quarter. Krier's classmate, Patrick Girard, also scored in each of the first three quarters to give three different players a hat trick. Jack Russ had two goals and an assist on the afternoon, while Garret Trucksess and Tav Hafner also tallied in the runaway victory. Trucksess' goal was the first of his collegiate career. Setting up the offense all afternoon was the play of Andrew Dalke as he recorded four assists to go along with his goal. Rob McLallen and Kevin Goshorn also tallied a pair of assists in the win, while Justin Brendel and Russ each had a single helper.

Haverford seemingly controlled the game right from the opening faceoff. The Fords compiled an 11-4 advantage in shots during the first 15 minutes. That advantage gave them an early 3-0 cushion. The Fords were slightly more efficient with their shooting in the second quarter as a 10-9 edge in shots resulted in three more goals for the hosts. Gwynedd Mercy did not put a shot on goal until the second period. Even when the Griffins found space in the defense, Eric Caliendo turned away four of the five shots he faced in the opening half.

Up 6-1 at the half, the Fords pulled away for good as they scored seven goals on 13 shots during the third quarter to go up 13-1. With the lead well in hand, Haverford still managed a 9-4 edge in shots during that final frame. By game's end, Haverford had amassed a 43-23 shooting advantage. Caliendo finished the game with ten saves before ceding the goal to freshman Dylan Slack for the second straight game. Slack went untested in his 6:39 of playing time, but did collect one ground ball.

Zack Cohen and Max Ellis both the led the Fords with six ground balls on the afternoon. Cohen collected most of his possessions off of face offs where he won 12 of the contest's 21 attempts. Ellis did his work on the defensive end where the Fords forced Gwynedd Mercy into 17 turnovers. The Fords' defense was credited with 10 caused turnovers. Even that was a balanced effort as Girard was the only player to finish with two caused turnovers. Defensively, the Fords held a 40-25 edge in ground balls for the contest. That advantage was 25-15 at the end of the first half.

Men's lacrosse will look to roll right into its next non-conference battle as Wooster comes to Swan Field on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start time. These two programs will be meeting for the first time in program history when they take the field this weekend.
