HAVERFORD, Pa. The Haverford College men's lacrosse team had four individuals earn All-Centennial Conference accolades. Three of those honorees came from one of the conference's top defenses as Eric Caliendo and Chandler Todd earned second-team honors, while PJ Jackson was an honorable mention All-CC pick. Additionally, Caliendo was named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's lacrosse. Tav Hafner also earned second-team all-conference recognition from the midfield.
Eric Caliendo earned all-conference recognition for the second straight season as he was an honorable mention selection following his junior season. As a team captain this year, Caliendo anchored a defense that allowed just 6.93 goals per game. Seeing all but a few minutes in goal, Caliendo stopped 58.8% of the shots on goal he faced and had the third best goals against average (7.01) in the conference. That goals against average ranks third in program history. Caliendo earned the conference's scholar-athlete of the year award for having the highest cumulative GPA among all players named to the all-conference team. Caliendo was also named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team for the second straight season.
Chandler Todd emerged as a key contributor for the Fords' defense as a full-time starter during his sophomore year. In addition to helping his team post the lowest goals against average since the 2007 season, Todd ranked among the top 10 players in the Centennial Conference with 20 caused turnovers. He was also fourth on the team with 42 groundballs. His five caused turnovers in the win against Wooster back in March rank ninth for a single game in program history. He caused multiple turnovers in five different games.
Tav Hafner joined his teammates on the second-team All-Centennial Conference list. Hafner had a breakout senior campaign in which he scored 19 goals and assisted on four more. Both of those offensive marks were career bests for the senior. His 23 points ranked him second on the team. Hafner had a career night in the near upset win against Ursinus when he scored four goals and assisted on another. The senior scored 14 of his 19 goals during conference competition. He was especially effective on man-up opportunities where his three man-up goals in conference ranked fourth among his Centennial peers.
PJ Jackson earned honorable mention All-Centennial Conference after ranking third on the team in caused turnovers (17) and fourth in groundballs (30). Thirteen of Jackson's 17 caused turnovers came during the conference slate, ranking him eighth in the conference for that category. He picked up four groundballs and recorded an assist in the win against Dickinson. He forced a season-best four turnovers during Haverford's win against Muhlenberg.
Men's lacrosse finished the 2016 season with seven victories and came within a single goal of returning the team to the Centennial Conference playoffs. During those seven victories, the team allowed just 4.14 goals per game.
