HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eric Caliendo '16 and Tav Hafner '16 have been recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) as Scholar All-Americans for the 2016 season. These awards mark the first time Haverford has had multiple players named to the Scholar All-American team since the 2012 season.
The USILA Scholar All-America program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. A Scholar All-American must be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Scholar All-Americans must have brought credit to themselves, the institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. They must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Haverford's first All-American since the 2013 season, Caliendo was a second-team All-Centennial Conference selection and was chosen as the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's lacrosse by the Centennial Conference. A team captain, Caliendo was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of his three eligible seasons. He was also named the Centennial Conference Male Sportsmanship recipient for the 2015-16 academic year. On the field, his 7.01 goals against average for his senior season ranks third in program history. He was a four-year starter for the Fords.
Hafner joined his classmate as a second-team All-Centennial Conference selection during the 2016 season. Hafner appeared in all 15 games for Haverford and ranked second on the team with 23 points during his senior campaign. His 19 goals were the third most on the team with three of those tallies coming on man-up opportunities. He also added four assists on the season. Hafner scored multiple goals in six different games this spring. His largest offensive output came with a season-high five points (four goals, one assist) against then-No. 18 Ursinus. He also recorded a hat trick while adding one assist in the win at Muhlenberg.
