HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team started Centennial Conference play with an 8-5 win against McDaniel on Saturday afternoon. The Fords (5-3, 1-0 CC) had the only offense in the first quarter and led 5-1 at the half before cruising to the win against the Green Terror (5-4, 0-1 CC).

Patrick Girard and Alex Frost led the Fords with two goals as the attack came from a variety of angles all afternoon. Dylan Slack made 17 saves to record the win in goal.

Haverford's first goal came on the Fords' third chance in the attacking zone. The tally followed one of Slack's saves to stop a McDaniel possession as Frost put Haverford up 1-0 at the 9:20 mark of the quarter. The hosts added their second goal of the quarter with just 1:02 remaining as Max Ellis caused a turnover and carried it the length of the field for the first goal since his freshman season. Slack turned away six shots in the opening 15 minutes in what turned out to be his busiest quarter in goal.

McDaniel scored off a face off victory to start the second quarter, but two Haverford goals in a span of just 1:37 took the momentum back. Isaac Krier tallied his eighth goal of the season at the 12:06 mark. McDaniel won the ensuing draw, but a save from Slack was quickly transitioned into the attacking zone as Rob McLallen finished his fifth tally of the season. Kevin Goshorn's goal with 5:08 remaining before the half made the score 5-1 with five different goal scorers for Haverford in the opening 30 minutes.

The Fords went on another scoring spurt early in the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Frost and Girard just 40 seconds apart. Frost's team-leading 12th goal of the year came on a man-up chance and was assisted by Stephen DeLeo. Girard's first goal of the day was assisted by Isaac Krier. He also tacked on Haverford's eighth and final goal of the day with his eighth tally on the year. McLallen assisted on that goal to finish his afternoon with three points.

Going up against one of the best faceoff men in the Centennial Conference, the Fords had work to do defensively all afternoon and did so by causing 13 of McDaniel's 19 turnovers to go along with Slack's standout game in goal. Ellis caused four of those turnovers to lead the team. The Fords also picked up 21 ground balls with Slack's four ground balls leading that category.

Men's lacrosse will close its three-game homestand this Wednesday as the Fords host Muhlenberg on Swan Field. That contest will be held under the lights with a 7 p.m. start time.
