HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team outshot Gettysburg, had one more save, and picked up three more ground balls than the Bullets (8-5, 4-2 CC) but came out of the wrong side a 5-4 decision on Swan Field Saturday afternoon. The Fords (6-7, 2-4 CC) had a shot to win it with under a minute to play but a save from Gettysburg goalie Tim Brady denied that final chance.

Haverford got two goals from Patrick Girard, along with tallies from Stephen DeLeo and Ben Frost. Dylan Slack made seven saves in the crease. Gettsyburg got its five goals from five different players while Brady finished the contest with six saves. The Fords and Bullets tied in the first, second, and fourth quarters while a 1-0 Gettysburg edge in the third ultimately proved to be the difference.

Despite the defenses holding the upper hand throughout most of the afternoon, Haverford scored twice in the opening five minutes to take an early lead. Girard's unassisted goal just 1:12 into the game gave Haverford an early lead. The Bullets answered back exactly one minute later.

Zack Cohen took all 12 of Haverford's face offs and won eight of them for his team. His second win at the X set up Haverford's second goal. After three wide shots, the Bullets were called for interference. Just as that 30 second penalty was running out, Isaac Krier set up Girard for his second goal of the day and 13th this season. However, the Bullets later ability to kill off penalties loomed large as Gettysburg successfully defended four one minute man-up chances from the Fords in the final three quarters. Sean Fumai's 29th goal of the season from Gettysburg tied the scoring heading into the second quarter.

Haverford got another goal off of a Slack save to start the second quarter. Just 16 seconds after Slack denied the Bullets on one end, Chandler Todd carried through the midfield and found DeLeo in front of cage to give the Fords a 3-2 lead. DeLeo now has 14 goals this season.

Gettysburg tied the game with 4:03 remaining in the opening half and did not take its first lead of the game until the 6:13 mark of the third quarter. However, that momentum also carried into the fourth quarter as an unassisted tally with 12:53 to play in regulation put the Fords in a 5-3 hole.

Garret Trucksess found Ben Frost for his team-leading 18th goal of the year at the 8:25 mark to bring the game within a single goal. Haverford had two more possession to try and at least send the game into overtime; however, both instances ended with a save from Brady. The final save came on Frost's attempt from close range with under a minute to go before Brady maintained control and the Bullets held on to the possession until the final buzzer.

Haverford picked up 26 ground balls on the afternoon, compared to 23 from their Bullet counterparts. PJ Jackson, who also caused two turnovers, finished with a game-high six pickups. Max Ellis also forced two turnovers in Haverford's defensive end.

With their bye in the conference schedule next Wednesday, men's lacrosse will return to action at Ursinus next Saturday. That contest will get underway at 3 p.m.
