Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse Team
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Ben Frost and PJ Jackson have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. With two student-athletes honored, Haverford is one of just four schools in the Philadelphia area with two selections. The Fords are the only Division III school to reach that benchmark as the team had multiple representatives for the first time since the 2011 season.
The honorees are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.
Jackson certainly left his mark on the men's lacrosse program during his senior season as the Fords' captain was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a third-team All-American, and USILA Scholar All-American. The first-team All-CC selection was named the athletic department's Gregory Kannerstein '63 Award recipient and was selected to play in the North-South Senior All-Star game. He led the team in ground balls (46) and caused turnovers (28) while also scoring on his only two shots on goal.
Frost led the Fords in almost every offensive category with a team-best 23 goals, 26 points, 74 shots, and 47 shots on goal. He also added three assists, picked up 11 ground balls, and caused two turnovers during the 2017 season. Frost finished his season with at least one point in 14 of Haverford's 15 games. He started the year with four straight multi-goal games, including a hat trick in the win at Stockton. He closed the season with a goal in nine straight contests, featuring a hat trick against Swarthmore in the regular season finale.
Haverford's duo is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse team by Gwynedd Mercy's Marc Bushong, Widener's Scott Allison, Saint Joseph's Chris Blewitt and Austin Smith, Timmy Brooks of Cabrini, Villanova's Christian Cuccinello and Devin McNamara, Penn's Kevin Gayhardt and Connor Keating, Cam Marsh of Swarthmore, and Chestnut Hill's Thomas McDermott.
