Men's Lacrosse Defends Home Turf from McDaniel, 15-12

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (4-8, 2-3 CC) powered past visiting McDaniel (7-8, 0-6 CC) in a hard-fought game on Swan Field Saturday afternoon, prevailing with a 15-12 victory. The Fords controlled most of the major stat categories, with a dominating 53-15 edge in ground balls and a 52-30 edge in shots.

First-year Reid Tietjen was seemingly everywhere on the field for Haverford, with an impressive statline that featured a pair of goals, five assists, four ground balls and a caused turnover. Matt Richards and Eric Dahlberg each scooped seven ground balls and combined for seven goals (Dahlberg four, Richards three). Teddy Carlin had a game-best eight from the face-off X. Jason Borsari added two caused turnovers to five ground balls. Carlin went a stellar 17-of-26 from the X, while Drew Buck added a pair of wins.

Haverford scored two quick strikes to go up 2-0 with Dahlberg and Andrew Arth finding the back of the cage early. McDaniel rallied to tie things up at 2-2, but the Fords then unleashed a big run, taking a 7-0 run to pull to 9-2 with 14:16 left in the second period. Haverford had designs on pulling away from that point, but a composed McDaniel sideline was able to draw up a plan to get back into things, with three goals to cut the lead to just four as Nick DeLoriers was integral with a goal and an assist in that stretch.

DeLoriers assisted both Jason Fritz and Dylan Vitale at the end of the second half, but Teddy Carlin won the faceoff and immediately took the ball down the field for a rare FOGO goal, electrifying the bench and pumping up the crowd as Haverford was suddenly ahead by four at 11-7 with just three seconds remaining in the half.

The Fords were outscored in the second half, 5-4, but did just enough to hold on to the victory. Haverford seemingly had everyone involved in the offensive gameplan, with contributors such as Borsari finding paydirt on the offensive end while Richards and Dahlberg were fighting for every loose ball.

Will Graves opened the fourth with a tally to put Haverford up four-and D'Andre Chaney added a quick snipe with exactly six minutes to play to restore a three-goal cushion that would hold as the final score as Haverford frustrated McDaniel down the stretch in a game that featured many loose balls and aggressive defensive pressure from both sides.

Reigning CC Defensive Player of the Week Jacob Abraham only needed to make six saves to preserve his third win of the season, while Brighton Lorber did much of the heavy lifting for McDaniel, with 17 saves. The contest featured eight penalties. Fritz (four goals) was the leading scorer for McDaniel, who also got a hat-trick from DeLoriers.

Haverford has won three consecutive matchups against McDaniel and has notched wins in five of the last six meetings.

The Fords now continue the push for a Centennial Conference playoff spot with another home game on Wednesday night under the Swan Field lights, as Muhlenberg comes to the Main Line for a 7 p.m. start.
