Men’s Lacrosse Scores Most Goals Since 2001, Downs Devils 24-5

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College Men's Lacrosse team (3-2) had a historic performance Wednesday night, taking down FDU-Florham (0-4), 24-5 on a cold and rainy evening at Swan Field.

In a game that saw the Fords score the fifth-most goals in school-history, Reid Tietjen and Seamus McNally led the charge, scoring five goals each, with Tietjen also contributing three assists. Mychal West had a career-day for the Scarlet and Black, dishing out a game-high four assists off the bench. 

Teddy Carlin picked up a game-high six ground balls, with Tietjen, McNally, and Drew Buck all scooping up five ground balls each.On the defensive side, Danny Hoehler caused three turnovers.

In the faceoff X, the Fords won 20 out of 33 duels, as Carlin came away with nine face-offs. Buck won eight draws, while Alexander Wysk tallied three faceoff wins in a reserve role. 

Jacob Abraham earned the win for the Scarlet and Black, making three saves in limited action as all four Haverford goalkeepers (Abraham, Andy Tiesto, Peter Del Col, Colby Freeman) split time in the win. 

The first quarter was all Haverford, as the Scarlet and Black ended the opening stanza already in the driver's seat, up 7-0. Phillip Passalaqua began the scoring for the Fords, followed by a natural hat-trick from Tietjen. Evan Wolpert put Haverford up 5-0, before a man-up goal from McNally pushed the Scarlet and Black lead to 6-0. Tietjen snuck in his fourth goal of the contest with 16 seconds remaining to give Haverford a comfortable lead. 

FDU-Florham started the second quarter off with a goal, before six unanswered goals from the Fords stretched the lead out to 13-1 with 7:17 to go in the half. The six unanswered goals came courtesy of Jonathan Moon, Tietjen, Tyler Vendetti, in addition to two from McNally. The Devils then broke the 6-0 run with a goal, only to give up another less than a minute later as D'Andre Chaneyfound the back of the net  at the 3:45 mark, as the Fords went to the intermission up 14-2. 

FDU-Florham started the third period off with a quick 3-0 run, until Passalaqua's second goal of the game put the Devils  scoring to a halt, with Haverford in command up 15-5 over the visitors. The hosts then went on another 4-0 scoring run with goals coming from Chaney, West, and two more from McNally to take 19-5 lead into the final stanza.

The Fords then followed up their string of five unanswered goals, by firing in five more goals to eventually claim the contest 24-5. The remaining goals by the Scarlet and Black came from five different scorers, as Noah Laurino, Ethan Schlam, Roan Spencer, Ethan Waugh, and Jack Freel all got their names on the scoring sheet to cap off the victory.

The Scarlet and Black will remain at Swan Field for their next matchup, as the River Hawks of Susquehanna pay the Fords a visit Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m.
