News: Bathory Resigning effective August 31

Colin Bathory ’99 recently completed his seventh season as head coach of his alma mater during the 2016 season.

In 2010, Bathory led the Fords to their first Centennial Conference Tournament title and directed them into the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament. Bathory has coached 11 players to U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse (USILA) All-America status. Additionally, 28 players have garnered All-Centennial Conference honors with Bathory as head coach.

Prior to his stellar start at the helm of the Fords, Bathory had served as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the program since the 2006 season, helping to guide the team to a Centennial regular season crown (2009) and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances (2008, 2009). Bathory played an integral part in helping lead the Class of 2011 to a 47-19 cumulative mark and a place in program history as its winningest graduating class.

Prior to his return to Haverford, Bathory served as the head coach for two years at Plano East High School in Texas, where his team reached the semifinals and finals in the Texas state championship tournament. Before heading to Texas, Bathory was an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney (Va.) College, where he helped lead the Tigers to a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament. He also coached the Auburn (Ala.) University club team for the 2002 season and was an assistant with the Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) for two years (2000-01).

Bathory earned his degree in History of Architecture from Haverford in the Growth and Structure of Cities program within the cooperative program with Bryn Mawr College. On the playing field, he was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain on the lacrosse team. He accumulated 305 ground balls—the third-most in program history. His 115 career points (74 goals, 41 assists) ranked him 13th in program history at the time of his graduation. He received the athletic department’s Varsity Club Award following his senior year and earned the team’s “Swan” (senior leadership) and “Gopher” (100-plus ground balls) awards.
